Aran Jones is running a Welsh learners website, he claims to have taught thousands of learners Welsh, including people across the world. He has not direct access with them.

Aran Jones has a degree in Welsh literature. Iestyn ap Dafydd is a civil engineer.

Aran' Empty C.V. - An interest in languages.

Aran has claimed to have discovered a revolutionary new way of learning Welsh, which he wants people across the world to use so they will be able to speak Welsh in their countries, and it appears he wants to develop his 'unique method' for teaching languages across the world.

Aran uses his free lessons to market his main £3.90 or £.6.70 per month charge for lessons. He claimed to have learnt Manx in seven hours from a conversation level in seven hours (This is impossible).

These are reviews of his Kindle Book (£0.99)

Don't be Taken In

"Basically, I've paid to read a marketing mailer that rubbishes every other method of learning a language other than the author's. Even if I were convinced - which I'm not - would be impossible to follow up as the range of languages using his method is very limited. If this were free, it would still be a real disappintment

This is an advert not a book

The introduction is just a 'hook' reeling you in for your wallet. The whole thing is an advertisement. It seems the author usually sells his services on line for ten - fifteen pounds and hour. Full of patter and no content, not even in English, for how to apply this so called method which doesn't really extend beyond Speaking words out loud and learning them in blocks followed by a long period of neglect! '''''

To be honest I would expect someone to tell me that much for nothing in casual conversation at a bus stop.

Disappointed

Regretting purchasing this "book". Didn't teach anything. It seems to me that it was just an advert to purchase learning materials.

ust written to get you to buy the course he does. Who knows what that is like.

H.G. There is nothing new, exciting or useful in this book. It is just waffle which advertises their website and other methods of getting money from you. Very disappointed and requested a refund immediately.

This is an advert and not a book - don't waste your time or money.

Fake News - This Book is Delusional

It defies credibility how readers have provided five stars reviews of his fictional book. Amazon ignored my complaint about Aran's misrepresentations. Aran not longer refers to this book on his website for obvious reasons. Anyone who wishes to discover how to learn a new language should refer to Hurd and Murphy (2015)

Success with Languages O.U. You will learn more reading their free pages than reading Aran's delusional claims.

Aran Jones is a Welsh Language political activist who has created his Sayanything-they-like-website to earn his livelihood. His most recent publicity stunt was with Culture Vannin Isle of Man he claimed that he learn to speak Manx in seven hours to conversational level in seven hours. He claimed to be experimenting to see if Manx Vodka could improve language learning.

If you too old to believe in miracles, please give your £0.99 to charity and refrain from spending £15 for a weeks' 'bobsled', listening to oral language. There is very good oral Welsh language course offered by Hieni Grufford that costs £10 (LLofa). He is Welsh learners book author.A

H.G.  Aran has 50 five start rating this suggests that people are either  gullible or simply preaching his gospel.

Aran Manx in Day Publicity Stunt - Media Wales - Martin Shipton

A language teacher has set himself an unusual target – to spend a day learning.

Manx on a live videocast and then have a conversation in the language with someone who is fluent.

Aran Jones, the co-founder of SaySomethinginWelsh.com, will undertake the challenge on Monday, June 27

He will spend an intensive day learning Manx on a live videocast, taking a shot of Bifrost hand-crafted Manx vodka before each half-hour session.

Aran's Delusional Promises on His Website

Some people spend YEARS learning Welsh – but never cross the bridge to becoming a fluent user of the language.  If you’re reading this, you probably already feel that you haven’t learnt Welsh as quickly as you had hoped.  Maybe you’re worried that you might be trying to learn in the wrong way, and you’d like to know how to do better, and how to find learning Welsh easier.

Other people (you might already know some of them!) seem to dip their toes into Welsh and then within a few weeks be chatting away happily to any Welsh speaker they meet.  If you do know someone like that, you won’t be at all surprised to hear that most of us feel a mixture of real admiration and frustrated jealousy when one of our friends learns Welsh so quickly.

Aran Jones History

In that you, the SSiW community, can and will change the entire game. I believe that you will help create an entirely new dyna
believe mic for the future of the language.

I believe that you will translate it into dozens of different languages so that more people than anyone would have though possible all round the world will learn Welsh.

I believe that will lead to a transformation in the Welsh tourism industry. I believe that you will start and run groups and meetups and make it easy and fun for anyone who wants to become a Welsh speaker, anywhere in the world, to do just that.

I believe that all the people learning Welsh through different languages will make it suddenly real and fun to speak Welsh - because huge numbers of them won't be able to speak English, so if you Skype them, you won't have the age-old temptation of slipping back into English!

I believe that increasing numbers of you will move to Welsh speaking communities, and will create your own Welsh speaking communities in parts of Wales where the language hasn't been heard on the streets in a hundred years - and in parts of the world where it has never been heard on the streets.

H.G.  Aran has 50 five star ratings for his Kindle Book, but many appear to be adverts his site and is only charging for £0,99 for his book.

Hurd Murphy (2005) - Success with Languages - Open University

Often as learners we set off with unrealistic assumptions, some of which may be fostered by the advertising employed by some course providers of language learners, along the lines of 'Learn language in three weeks!  pg.7

Hunter and Turner (2008) - Dysgu Cymra

"Is it possible that some people  are attracted by catchphrases such as: 'Welsh is fun', 'Welsh is easy'. 'Welsh in a week' and are mislead

Eaton (2017)

The reality is that language acquisition is a complex process that involves communication, grammar, structure, comprehension and language production along with reading, writing, speaking and listening, just to name a few of the simpler aspects of language learning

In his book, Outliers, author Malcom Gladwell highlights a study orirignally published in the Harvard Business review by Ericsson et al. The general premise has become known as the “10,000 hours to become an expert rule”. In the book Gladwell explains the research behind the notion that true expertise is achieved after an individual has invested 10,000 hours in learning or practicing a skill. This may be a sport, a musical instrument or the study of something.

There are many ways to define “fluency”.

If, for the sake of argument, we consider fluency to be the same as being an “expert” in speaking a language, then learner may well invest 10,000 hours in their language studies to attain fluency.

People will shake their heads when they hear that. No one wants to believe it really requires that much work.

Media Wales  - What Aran Jones said in 2004!

A PROPOSAL by a Welsh language group to scrap the name "Wales" in favour of "Cymru" was yesterday described as "bonkers" and "crackers".

Cymuned, the pressure group founded to defend Welsh-speaking communities, decided at its conference that because "Wales" derives from a Latin root meaning foreigner, it should no longer be used to designate our nation. Equally, people should no longer be described as "Welsh", but as "Cymro" or "Cymraes", depending whether they are male or female.

Cymuned spokesman Aran Jones said, "We think it is very realistic to get rid of the name Wales and always use Cymru. "At a time when the Assembly Government has decided our nation should become bilingual - meaning that in the longer term the aim is for everyone to be able to speak Welsh and English - we think it appropriate that a sense of communal belonging should be fostered. However loyal people may feel to 'Wales', the fact is that the name is an artificial construction that was forced on our country.

Aran's Abuse of Teachers

Hattie had been having Spanish lessons at school since she was 11, and
she thought she was no good at Spanish

That’s not HER fault.  She’s got a neural structure that can turn a view into a work of art, and she can talk, she can have conversations with adults – so she’s got a neural structure that could let her talk Spanish as easily as she speaks English.

But she’s spent FIVE YEAR in boring, pointless, unsuccessful lessons that have completely wasted her time, and convinced her that she’s no good at Spanish.

That is school’s in boring, pointless, unsuccessful lessons that have completely wasted her time, and convinced her that she’s no good at Spanish.  That is school’s fault – and whatever their constrictions are in terms of time and money, that failure is unacceptable.

Hattie and I have got a deal now.

I’ve promised her that she isn’t bad at Spanish, but that her school was useless at teaching her.

I’ve told her if she registers on our new site and gets her dad to let me know her username, I’ll give her access to all our Spanish lessons – and if she feels like playing around a bit with them at any time (and ONLY if she actually feels like doing it), I would love to hear what she thinks of them.
