Evidence of School Children having Private Lesson Undermines School Performance Ratings

The Sutton Trust refers to the fact that 27% of children in the United Kingdom and 41% of children in London have private tuition.

Dylan Wilam, who is world authority on education, has claimed the Pisa international rankings comparisons have no validity because of the extensive private tuition that takes place in countries like South Korea. Dale Povey former head of the deprived secondary school in Salford, which was featured on the Channel Four series, claimed his school could not compete with London schools.

This makes a mockery of top down school performance estimates. In South Korea it was unclear the extent that schools were creating the children's capabilities, in comparison to their out of school lessons.
